Charlie says... this is what I now use on my gravel bike. I love the way both pads move (rather than one) and they are so easy to set up. Power and modulation (with the TRP compressionless cableset) is excellent. I really dont feel the need to spend more or go full hydro.
A dual sided mechanical system makes the TRP Spyre Mechanical Disc Brake one of the best performing on the market. Add to this hassle free installation and reduced pad wear and it is easy to see why it has been so highly rated in the cycling press..
- Dual sided actuation
- Even pad wear
- Easy adjustment and set up
- Works with ALL cable actuated road levers
- Uses TRP's own ultra-grippy semi-metallic pad, designed for road riding conditions
- Pads are Shimano M525/M515 compatible allowing for further customization
- 140mm or 160mm rotor options will work for both front and rear
- Weight: 154g/caliper per wheel
The TRP Spyre is probably the most advanced and one of the lightest mechanical disc brake calipers available on the market
Being compatible with all standard drop bar levers, this brake provides the option to switch to discs without having to shell out for a top flight hydraulic disc compatible groupset.
The dual piston design gives this brake multiple advantages over its competitors. Unlike single piston calipers, the Spyre can be adjusted easily, with an inline adjuster, at the handlebar, to compensate for pad wear, with no need for adjustment at the caliper. The dual pistons also mean more even pad contact, meaning more even pad wear.
The Spyre is also incredibly simple to set up. See for yourself by clicking the video tab above the image and watching the installation video.
