You get two adjustable ankle cuffs to keep the water out. The zip is now at a groovy angle for amuch longer life. the guys at YKK helped on that one.
The tempature rating is damned handy in the UK. Don't dismiss these as an artic expedition boot (they are elsewhere in the range), rated at -3c and above, these are the ideal UK winter commuting and riding boot. Hey, evven on the south coast we see -3c in the mornings.
Our good buddy Markus Stitz used these whilst dealing with freezing wet Iceland on his round the world single speed ride. He says they were "heroes" saved the day, kept his feet dry and warm in what was incredibly tough conditions. Those are his muddy feet in one of the pictures.
Sizing: they size up fairly normally, a touch on the smaller side. So our advice is to go up a size to allow for nice warm winter socks. We have found this approach more consistent for sizing than the 45NRTH size chart

Just a quick note to say, I picked up the Japanthers from the post this morning, got home, screwed on the cleats went for a ride and coped for wind, rain, hail and snow! In Cheshire!
The boots were superb! Warm dry and toastie.
Never had dry feet when it rains. I do now. Even when cycing in heavy rain for over an hour. Very comfortable. Easy to get on and off. You will need a size bigger than normal. Delivered next day. Don't get cold sole of foot either with the insert. Highly recommended. In the cold you will need thick socks.
